Big Dog Ranch Rescue founder Lauree Simmons and Dr. Tomas Infernuso.

For the past three years, I’ve had the privilege of working with Big Dog Ranch Rescue (BDRR), where I dedicate my time each month to performing life-saving surgeries for dogs that have been abandoned, neglected, or severely injured. Led by founder Lauree Simmons, BDRR has become a sanctuary for these animals, providing them with the medical attention and love they deserve. Together, we’ve seen countless success stories, two of which I’d like to share with you today.

Case 1: Sequoia’s Road to Recovery

Meet Sequoia, a courageous rescue dog who had been abandoned and was struggling to walk without difficulty. Sequoia faced significant challenges due to the condition of his knees, making it painful and difficult for him to live a normal life.

Thanks to Big Dog Ranch Rescue and their unwavering dedication, we were able to give Sequoia a fighting chance. In the first of two planned surgeries, I performed a knee reconstruction to help stabilize his leg. The procedure was a success, and Sequoia is making excellent progress in his recovery. In the next 30 to 60 days, he’ll be scheduled for surgery on his other knee, bringing him even closer to a full and active life.

Sequoia’s story is a reminder of why we do what we do. BDRR was founded on the belief that every dog deserves not just to live, but to live a full and happy life. With their mission to Rescue, Rehabilitate, and Educate, Sequoia is now on the path to a brighter, healthier future.

Case 2: Luv’s Miraculous Comeback

Luv’s story touched all of our hearts. She had been stolen from her yard and tragically hit by a car before being rescued by Big Dog Ranch Rescue. When I met Luv, she was suffering from a severely broken leg, specifically her elbow, which required immediate reconstruction.

Thanks to the swift action of BDRR and our surgical team, we were able to repair Luv’s leg and give her a second chance. The surgery was complex, but Luv showed incredible resilience throughout her recovery. Today, she’s back with her loving family, and her story is a testament to the power of rescue work.

The Importance of Surgery in Rescue Cases

Many of the dogs that come to Big Dog Ranch Rescue require advanced medical care and surgery. Whether it’s reconstructive surgery for broken bones, like in Sequoia and Luv’s cases, or more intricate procedures like ACL repairs or spinal surgeries, our goal is always to restore mobility, alleviate pain, and give these dogs a chance at a new life.

At Big Dog Ranch Rescue, we believe that every dog deserves the opportunity to recover and thrive, no matter how challenging their case may be. Surgery plays a critical role in making that happen, and I’m honored to contribute my skills to help save these lives.

Collaboration and Hope

The work we do at Big Dog Ranch Rescue wouldn’t be possible without the tireless efforts of Lauree Simmons and her team. Their dedication to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs is truly inspiring, and I’m grateful to be a part of this mission.

The rescue world is facing enormous challenges—shelters are overcrowded, and economic difficulties have made it harder for families to care for their pets. But thanks to the incredible team at BDRR, we continue to save lives, one surgery, one recovery, one adoption at a time.
